Monet's Oil Paintings
The French artist Claude Monet is the undisputed leader of Impressionist art; Monet's paintings are recognized as the purest examples of this style. Their importance is reflected in the price of his oil painting Le Bassin aux Nympheas, which was sold in London 2008 for 40.9 million pounds.
Monet laid the foundations of modern art. His aim was not to communicate a story or give moral instruction to the viewer, but rather to play with people's feelings when they see the paintings. The pointillist brush strokes in his paintings were the beginning of modern pictorial art.
