Van Gogh painted Les Vessenots in 1890. As well as many other of his landscapes, he painted this outdoors. This magnificent work made him feel especially free, and at the same time he is showing his feelings of sadness and loneliness, which would soon lead him to suicide. It is currently on display at the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid.
